In Memory of Mom, April 24th, 1959 - October 1st, 2002

Grandpa Jens and Mom at my wedding reception in Huntsville - May 2002

One of my favorite and last memories of Mom is my 21st birthday. Ryan and I had been married for 2 months and we were living in Oregon. The morning of my birthday there was a knock on our door. Which was unusual, it wasn't like we had anybody around to be stopping by. We opened the door and my Mom burst into the room with a huge hug for me! Her and Trit had driven up to surprise me! I was SO surprised! And the surprise didn't end there, she had gotten tickets for all of us to go see "Phantom" in Portland on the 4th of July!! I was so excited! We had the best time! And the best part was, after the show we watched the fireworks off the river in downtown Portland. Is was by far the best firework show that we had ever seen and Mom was sure to let every one around us know how awesome it was. Ryan and I had the most fun listening to her "ooh" and "aah" and whistle (she had a pretty awesome whistle!) It was so much fun, the best birthday ever!  I am so grateful that I have so many wonderful memories of you Mom. I think about you all the time and wonder how different my life would be if you were still here. Especially Pierce and Madi's life, I wish so much that they knew you. I know you watch out for them. I wish so much that I could talk to you and hear your laugh. I am so grateful to have you for my Mom. I love you Mom, I miss you everyday!

what a lovely tribute to your mom. i love her too because she raised you to be a beautiful, righteous, loving, and happy woman, wife, mother and friend. i love the pic you had or still may have on your fridge of all of you doing the "i love you" hand sign. i'm sure she's so proud of you and can't wait to be with you again! love you, josie.

JO, you just made me bawl my eyes out. It is hard to have a little one without that lady, but I am glad that I have you. I miss mom's whistle too. She loved planning that surprise for you, and she loved you and Ryan very much! I will never forget that day either, cause you guys called me in Ecuador. I love you!

I love that you did this for your mom. I know what you mean about her "missing out" on our kids life. I feel the same way about my dad, but then I just think that he is there for more now that he would have been if he were still here on earth. You are so cute to do this. She was so great!

What a neat tribute to your cute mom Josie. She sounds like an amazing woman. I love her for raising an amazing daughter who has a smile that lights up a room and who makes Ryan so happy. You are simply the best and I'm sure your mom is looking down on you and your beautiful family and is so proud of you all.
